Christmas

Many people associate Christmas with a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, and presents. There is a legend of why we have a Christmas tree and it goes like this.

Back in the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, traveled to Germany to spread the Word of God. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit to the German people. The German people started to revere the Fir Tree as "God's Tree". In the next 5 centuries, the tree became a symbol of Christianity, and was being hung upside-down from the ceiling as a sign of Christianity. The first decorated known Christmas tree was made in 1510.

Santa Claus is another famous Christmas institution. Thomas Nast created the first image of what we believe Santa looks like in 1864. Santa Clause is supposed to have a white beard, a big belly, and a red nose. He is believed to be pulled by reindeer while giving all the kids in the world presents by dropping them down their chiminy.

Most parents give gifts to their kids and vice verse for Christmas. Companies have big sales and such to promote shopping and the biggest shopping day of the year usually comes the day after Thanksgiving. Many stores even hire a "santa" to help bring people to stores. Parents will usually get up during the night of Christmas Eve while their children are sleeping and they wrap the presents from "Santa Claus".
