Constitution Memorial Day was made on May 3, 1948. It is a national holiday which remembers the making of the constitution on May 3 of 1947.

The constitution was made in hope of Japanese growth. It states that sovereignty lies with the people, not (as before) with the Emperor. People have basic human rights. The constitution also renounces war. The Emperor is now the symbol of the state and the unity of the people.
